Australian savoir-faire

Today was all about culture. In a city housing over 130 museums (and that's not counting the churches, cathedrals and archways), it's hard to deny the lure of the architecturally stunning buildings full of priceless art and raunchy statues. While not normally a big fan of art galleries and museums - I know, I know, how terribly immature of me - finding yourself in Paris, you're aware that a trip to one or two of the Big Ones est obligatoire!

Call us crazy - although we prefer the term 'adventurous' - but we have taken up the challenge to walk every rue et boulevard without a street map. Okay, so this started because neither of us had actually purchased a map, but now idly strolling the streets has become quite addictive. Our mission today was to le Musée d'Orsay, on the left bank of the River Sienne.

Housed in a former railway station, the museum displays mainly French art from 1848-1914 (paintings, sculpture, furniture and photography), including an extensive collection of impressionist works of iconic painters such as Monet and Renoir. However, our fun was derived from interacting with the many sculptures and statues. Don't judge, just enjoy...

And takes flight like the angel statue with the contorted face...

While I dance with a Grecian Lady in the hall of mirrors and chandeliers.

Oh, the fun to be had when you're attempting to be cultural!

NB: savoir-faire n. Knowledge of just what to do in any situation, and to say or do the right and graceful thing
